Apple's Vision Pro, the innovative spatial computer, is set to be enhanced with artificial intelligence features in the near future. This integration of "Apple Intelligence," as Apple's AI suite is called, is expected to arrive with the update to visionOS 2.4 in April. A first beta version for developers is expected to be available this week.
The expansion with AI functions seems like a logical step, as Apple has positioned the Vision Pro as a fully-fledged computer. The hardware, equipped with the M2 chip and 16 gigabytes of RAM, provides the necessary prerequisites for local processing of AI data, similar to the iPhone, iPad, and Mac, where Apple Intelligence is already available.
Among the expected AI features of the Vision Pro are the image generation app Image Playgrounds, the creation of personalized emojis (Genmojis), and various writing tools. The integration of ChatGPT for text generation is also expected to be implemented.
Although Apple has announced plans to improve the voice assistant Siri using AI, it remains to be seen to what extent these improvements will also be implemented in the Vision Pro version of Siri. Optimized Siri integration would be a significant advantage for operating the spatial computer.
In addition to the integration of Apple Intelligence, visionOS 2.4 is expected to bring further improvements. These include a revised guest mode, which should simplify the use of the Vision Pro by multiple people, as well as a new app for the creation and editing of spatial content. These innovations indicate that Apple is continuously developing the Vision Pro and expanding the device's range of applications.
The integration of Apple Intelligence into the Vision Pro was subject to speculation for a while. Rumors of sluggish sales figures for the Vision Pro led to assumptions that Apple might initially focus on further developing AI functions for its more successful product lines. However, the now-known information about the upcoming integration of Apple Intelligence into the Vision Pro suggests that Apple continues to believe in the potential of the spatial computer and is actively driving its development.
The integration of artificial intelligence into the Vision Pro opens up new possibilities for interaction with the spatial computer and expands its application areas.
