The rumor mill is churning: Is the release of OpenAI's video generator Sora imminent? Much suggests that the AI tool, which can create videos from text descriptions, will soon be made available to the public. This assumption is supported by various clues, including statements from OpenAI employees, leaked information, and the announcement of OpenAI's "12 Days of OpenAI" event in December.
Sora is an AI model that can generate videos of up to one minute in length based on text input. The visual quality is said to be high, and the generated scenes are intended to accurately match the user's instructions. In addition to text-to-video generation, Sora is also supposed to offer the ability to use images and existing videos as the basis for new videos. The technology is based on the experience OpenAI gained with DALL-E, its AI image generator, and represents a logical extension of its capabilities.
Chad Nelson of OpenAI hinted at the imminent release of an updated version of Sora at C21Media in London. The new version is said to include three generation methods: text to video, text and image to video, and text and video to video, with a length of up to one minute. The release could take place as part of OpenAI's winter promotional event in December, possibly even as early as the beginning of the week.
